In her maiden speech new Guildford MP Angela Richardson mentioned the Downs Link – one of our major important spines for active travel and recreation, that runs from Peasmarsh to Cranleigh (Guildford) and eventually to Shoreham by Sea. The MP talked about the idea of repurposing the Downs Link, which can only add weight to the importance of active travel around our network. Waverley Cranleigh Councillor Liz Townsend also supported the idea of the Greenway.

Campaigners were pleased to make presentations about the Greenway concept to Guildford and Waverley Borough Councils, and were delighted that the concept was strongly supported by both current (new) administrations. We have continued to receive positive feedback from Councillors and Officers.
The Guildford Godalming Greenway has been put forward by Surrey County Council in a bid to Highways England for Designated Funds to carry out a detailed feasibility study of the route. If successful, the funds would cover the cost of any necessary surveys prior to detailed design.
A presentation about the Greenway was delivered to a meeting of Godalming Town Council this evening where the proposal was warmly received. The Council agreed to bring forward proposals for consideration by Members in regards to the adoption of the Guildford Godalming Greenway as a Community Infrastructure Levy project.
